The “New” Star Trek

May 8, 2009

Well I do not want to say much until the movie has been out for a while however, being fan of the franchise since before I can remember, the movie had its ups and downs. The biggest positive thing that I can say about the movie was that the actors had their characters down to the letter. It really seemed like the original actors in their teenage years. Dr. McCoys character was my favorite in the old franchise and now in the new remake as well. He had the Tennessee  accent that Deforrest Kelly had as the character and had the same inflections and used the same emphasis in his acting.

The technology in the movie (starship look, the effects, sounds, etc.) was …ehh alright. Looked a little too advanced than the original ship was supposed to be  (i.e. touching panels like in the 24th century Star Trek series and movies) than flicking switches, pushing actual buttons, and pulling levers like the 23rd century series and movies  but it had familiar looks to it which passes off as the original ship.

The thing had had me irritated was that I was hoping that it would follow the continuity of the original series and movie story lines as well as going into the 24th century and the timeline during the Next Generation series and movies as well as Deep Space Nine and Voyager. There were a few big points out of place or were changed that do not make sense….. but I guess that is a part of remaking the franchise.

If you aren’t a fan of star trek this is a movie for you to go see because they are trying to focus this “new” star trek to the younger viewers of this age like Gene Roddenberry did back in the 60’s with the original Star Trek then in the 80’s when he made The Next Generation.

If you are a fan and aren’t as picky when it comes to the continuity of the timeline and story lines of the show. You will love this movie, if you are as picky as me you will enjoy it but you will also enjoy picking it to pieces of where they went wrong. I will give it a few more weeks until more people have seen the movie before I get down to specifics.

Wolverine

May 4, 2009

Oh yea I kinda forgot to mention that I saw Wolverine last night with my usual movie gang. It was pretty good. I was worried that the continuity of this movie wasn’t going to match the characters bios of the original 3 X-men movies, but it did. I was impressed. It had more humor and a lot more humorous   “moments” which made it more enjoyable. It was also cool to see some of the other Marvel characters from the X-Men series introduced in this movie.

So far I thats 1 of 3 movies for this summer that I wanted to see. Next its the new Star Trek movie. I’m sure its gonna be good however, being a star trek fan that has followed the franchise for so long and the actual star trek “timeline” it will be interesting to see how well this movies continuity will go and how different the characters will act. I will be sad if the Dr. McCoy character doesn’t say “Damn it Jim !”  as well as a few of the other characters inflections and attitudes.  not so sure about this one and its prequel story….

Oh and then the next installment of the Harry Potter franchise. This one looks awesome. If you haven’t seen the newest trailer check it out on apple.com/trailers.

more on those movies to come….
