Whisky or Whiskey ?

August 9, 2009

I ended up taking a nice camping trip (this years vacation) to Kentucky from July 30 – August 2nd. I had to say it was the most fun I have had in a long time, it was a nice change of scenery, and a nice change of pace for me. I went with 6 other guys including 3 hempfield guys, two of which were my former teachers, and 3 others I have just met but were friends of the others. Terry and and his friends are big Indy car racing fans; so we had a camp ground 4 minutes away from Kentucky Speedway.

I have to say; I do not think I have been drunk, let alone hungover so much in my life. It was hardcore camping from thursday night to sunday morning with no electricity, and no water.

Friday was spent all day traveling to 4 of the 8 whisky/whiskey distilleries; we ended up traveling to  Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, and Makers Mark). All tours and tastings were wonderful, tasted what is the equivalent to moonshine at Buffalo Trace, wow, I must that burnt going down.

I had my Wild Turkey bottle signed by their Master Distiller, I dont think I will ever open that bottle; Then I got to hand dip the two bottles of Makers Mark I bought. Friday was a long day, left at 8:30am got back to the camp ground around 8ish. I passed on buying bottles of Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve, just because they were a little more expensive and I was on a budget, however there is one liquor store here in PA that has Buffalo Trace; or so the website says, however they are both delicious.

Buffalo Trace has a few other names of whiskey/whisky which I am gonna have to try and that I can get in PA. Woodford Reserve I had before because Doug got me a bottle of it either as a gift for house sitting or a gift for my birthday; I will be getting about bottle of that, I can tell you.

Saturday was a relaxing day at the campsite just, sitting, talking, games, and lots of drinking. We started drinking about 9am like everyone else in the camp ground. It was a nice day out since we had been running around all day on friday. We played redneck gold, redneck washer, and we played some cards.

Saturday night we ended up tailgating in the parking lot of Kentucky Speedway. The race started at 8:45 and we got there around 6pm. That was a fun time drinking in the parking lot meeting other people and having conversations. I ended up not feeling well after the race started. They got around about 100 or so laps before I got sick and ended up going back to the camp site to relax.

Sunday morning we packed up and left. All and all it was a fun filled weekend with the guys in Kentucky, away from technology, away from work, away from school. It was fun to relax and have fun with some friends, and get to enjoy some nice smooth whisky; or is it Whiskey?

VBS Days 4 and 5

July 24, 2009

Well I have to say the last two days of VBS were just as fun of an experience however, I may be creating my own games if I do this next year. The book that went with this years theme “Discovery Canyon” was good, however not for our group of kids that we had (games wise). They are in need of something a bit more exciting. I am hoping the kids were able to focus on the point of us being there was, and to the messages we were trying to pass on to them, so I guess we will find out sunday morning. Other than that they had fun at crafts, story telling, music, and of course, snack time.

There are a lot of pics from all 5 days on my facebook page. I will post some here as well once I pick out some good ones.

VBS Days 1, 2, and 3.

July 21, 2009

Well,  It has been three days now running games at VBS. I have to say, I am glad I am not certified in K-6. I believe I would lose my mind. The kids are great, however they have been way over energetic and the games designed or the VBS theme this year, are not really aimed at any type of fun physical activities. I may have to start making something up that requires them to run a little bit or something that will expel some of their energy.

I am hoping they will be a little more focused and less energetic in days 4 and 5. Here is hoping anyway. It has been a fun new experience however, I think I will tell Aleisha that I will volunteer for this next year.

Wish me luck on the last two days !

VBS at Holy Spirit.

July 19, 2009

Tonight at 6pm I am starting Vacation Bible School at Holy Spirit. This  should be interesting, I am in charge of games  for VBS, Ill have a group for 20 mins to play a game, and there are four groups of K-6th graders; I am scared. I guess I am about to find out how well I am going to be trying to teach some little kids about Christ and give them something that they will be able to use the rest of their lives; friends, fellowship, and helping them learn the words of christ.

Busy week…many projects

May 24, 2009

It had been a very busy week with not being able to take the time to make a new post.

I have started another web project this week for Chiques United Methodist Church at the request of a friend and former co-worker. That was on tuesday night and since then I have had the site pretty much built and ironing out some design modifications.

I spent most of the week getting everything in order for college in the fall. I am going for another semester at HACC and going to apply for E-Town College in the Spring and finish my bachelors in Communication with an emphasis Public Relations. I am very excited to finally have a plan on what I want to do. After realizing I would rather do web design as more of a hobby or “on the side” projects for clients, or friends instead of a career choice.

Friday was busy all around. I met Jeff K. and Arlette for lunch on friday afternoon, it’s always great to see Jeff and Arlette outside of work now (since I dont work with them anymore). Friday afternoon I was stopping in to see everyone at the admin building to see everyone and to stop in to see Rich. Rich wanted  to talk about some logo designs as well as a company website that he may wanna start. I have many ideas that I am still finishing up on paper before I send it to him.

Over all it was a busy week, the weekend has been just as busy but enjoyable. Other than working on some website projects, I had Brenden (nephew) over night on friday. Normally he does fine when he sleeps over at anyone others house other than his but once and a while he may wake up around 2 or 3 in the morning and notice he is not in his crib and doesnt know where he is at, its at that point he freaks out. On saturday morning I was trying to figure out some issues with the the church’s website and on saturday afternoon I went to hang out with Doug until we went to a game on saturday night.

Today I got a chance to hang out with John who I really haven’t had a chance to catch up with for a while so it was a fun day, got some drinks, had lunch, had more drinks, had dinner, and more drinks. It was fun.

Thank you.

May 12, 2009

I need to finally admit something to myself today and it only took an argument saturday night to actually sit back and think for a moment.

For those of you who are my closest friends, colleagues and co-workers will know that over the past year (since September) I have been a very miserable person, my attitude towards…well, everything. It was due to a breakup in what i guess you would consider a “relationship” but it was with someone who I shared everything with for the past 5 years. I know all of you know who I mean and as I said before it took an argument on saturday night to realize that I have been blaming her for what happened and for my miserable attitude.

After the argument and after spending all day sunday mad and realizing that she was right in what she was saying, I really cant blame her for anything. Honestly I could have taken what happened in a complete different situation but I chose to blame her and use the excuse that “it wasn’t my fault”. Its been all me the past year because I am the one that chooses to be miserable, its my choice that I cannot find joy in a lot of what I do. I know a lot of you base your opinions of her on what you saw and heard from me and from the past when you all knew her. I understand everyone has their opinions. I didn’t realize until today that. I finally saw that those opinions were right to a certain circumstance but I was taking them to far into context and proving them true to myself. That is not the person she is today.

I know i’ll get hell for saying that. I get hell for doing a lot of what I do but thats ok. As much hell as a lot of you give me I know you are all still there when I need you all.

I really created this post to make sure that I didn’t ruin one of the best long term friendships I have ever had, and I wanna save those 5 years and make it longer.

Thank you for always being there and thank you for not walking away Hayli.

Fox 43 story on our Habitat project

May 11, 2009

Fox 43 Story on our Habitat project.

mind you, you will see the ladies of our group that day working on the cement blocks out in the front. We all kinda laughed because the reporter wanted to get shots of the women for mothers day. So we all ran away because it would look funny if all of us guys were just sitting watching the ladies do all the work. However its a great story of what we did and what Habitat does.
