VBS Days 4 and 5

July 24, 2009

Well I have to say the last two days of VBS were just as fun of an experience however, I may be creating my own games if I do this next year. The book that went with this years theme “Discovery Canyon” was good, however not for our group of kids that we had (games wise). They are in need of something a bit more exciting. I am hoping the kids were able to focus on the point of us being there was, and to the messages we were trying to pass on to them, so I guess we will find out sunday morning. Other than that they had fun at crafts, story telling, music, and of course, snack time.

There are a lot of pics from all 5 days on my facebook page. I will post some here as well once I pick out some good ones.

VBS Days 1, 2, and 3.

July 21, 2009

Well,  It has been three days now running games at VBS. I have to say, I am glad I am not certified in K-6. I believe I would lose my mind. The kids are great, however they have been way over energetic and the games designed or the VBS theme this year, are not really aimed at any type of fun physical activities. I may have to start making something up that requires them to run a little bit or something that will expel some of their energy.

I am hoping they will be a little more focused and less energetic in days 4 and 5. Here is hoping anyway. It has been a fun new experience however, I think I will tell Aleisha that I will volunteer for this next year.

Wish me luck on the last two days !

VBS at Holy Spirit.

July 19, 2009

Tonight at 6pm I am starting Vacation Bible School at Holy Spirit. This  should be interesting, I am in charge of games  for VBS, Ill have a group for 20 mins to play a game, and there are four groups of K-6th graders; I am scared. I guess I am about to find out how well I am going to be trying to teach some little kids about Christ and give them something that they will be able to use the rest of their lives; friends, fellowship, and helping them learn the words of christ.

Weekend Packed Full of Busy, Insanity, and Fun.

June 14, 2009

So after a long week of not a lot, I was looking forward to the weekend. I spent most of the weekend working on two videos and they are both finally done (except for burning the project out).

Friday afternoon I helped Derrick with getting his new Macbook Pro setup and files moved over. He was quite happy to finally have his own laptop now. He was going on a Boy Scout …thing this weekend and he borrowed my Nikon D60, so I’m excited to see what type of pics he got to update the NE-6B site with.

Friday night I ended up watching Brenden for most of evening. He is to the point where is can walk he just afraid to let go and walk without help of anyones hand, or something to hold on too. He is also now saying my name, and a bunch of other words. He knows to say “up” when he wants you to pick him up, and he says “out” when he wants to go outside; it is really funny. I know he is gonna be a trouble maker since he already loves to play with everything in the house other than his toys; i.e.,  stove knobs, ceiling fan chains, climbing on the couch to look out the window, wondering what is behind the couch, smacking people on TV, playing the piano, and not to mention, he is now a master of going up and down the stairs all by himself.

Saturday was my first golf outing to the driving range since about, ohhh, 7th grade. I suck; Watching Mike and Doug hit the damn golf balls out on the range made me wanna compete to see if I could gloat; but no, I missed on the first swing and caught nothing but air. so screw that game, Im glad I have jury duty tomorrow.

After golf I hung out with Doug and family, Sammi is growing up so fast; she is so much fun to listen to when she talks. Doug also got me interested into more shows on the Food network like usual; The show “Chopped” is amazing, they had some pretty crappy chefs on apparently, according to Doug.

I have not been sleeping well the past week at all, I have been up way to late and not being able to fall asleep, so mornings are hell. I had to get up and get the video to my former church this morning before the first service. I am really tired today, however I know I probably wont get sleep tonight either because I just haven’t been sleeping; so we’ll see.

The video went over very well for the congregation, the church is in their transition phase of traditional vs. Contemporary. I am going to help a friend who works on their new developed “Technology Board” so we can come up with a “that be nice” “will needs” and “could use” lists to move forward with the churches transition. It will be interesting.

Im excited to get back to  work this week to see what projects come my way, so we’ll see.

Another week ahead

June 7, 2009

Things have been busy, but the weekend is over already and another week is ahead. Hempfield High Schools graduation is tomorrow evening, I plan on attending tomorrow evening to see some friends that I have watched grow up for 4 years graduate and move on.

That however, is the high point of the week. The rest of the time will be spend figuring out some financial loans to keep school moving ahead at HACC, as well as looking into Etown for the spring. There are bumps in the road at the moment financially, and I really do not wanna put school on hold for a semester so I need to get things settled. Why does this financial stuff have to be such a pain in the a$$ ?

This week I am finally finishing two videos I have been working on over the past month or so, one being the 30 hour famine video for Wayside Presbyterian Church, the other being Holy Spirit Lutheran Church’s 50th Anniversary video. They were bot enjoyable to edit however, the 30 hour famine video was my own creation so I was able to be creative, while the 50th anniversary video was more of just editing and putting pieces together.

Not only did bad news come about financial info this weekend but a summons for jury duty. Which means I may not be able to play in the HEF golf tournament on the 15th. That is a bummer, I am still trying to figure out details on that one…

Last week I got new pairs of shoes 1 casual 1 dress for work. Thanks Anne !

This week is also Apples WWDC keynote so we should see some cool stuff come out of it. New iPhone?,OS X Snow Leopard and maybe some new hardware.

I was also excited this past week because it was the premier week of “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” I have to say its a very cool set on the Universal lot in LA. Conan has brought the entire staff from his Late Night show. I am expecting a lot of the same stuff from Conan. I think everyone else is as well. Its gonna be great !

All and all I have a lot of things going on and am gonna be busy and stressed until I get these things worked out with college and the financial aid office as well as other finances. Here is hoping all goes well !

Peace out.

Going Green…website project

May 26, 2009

Chiques United Methodist Church new website is going very well. I am almost finished with most design aspects, and now am currently working on content and navigation. The project is supposed to support the theme “going green” I am not exactly sure why a church would go with that but, hey who am I to question church. please visit the site  http://chiquesumc.net as I move further along with the project until completion.

Fox 43 story on our Habitat project

May 11, 2009

Fox 43 Story on our Habitat project.

mind you, you will see the ladies of our group that day working on the cement blocks out in the front. We all kinda laughed because the reporter wanted to get shots of the women for mothers day. So we all ran away because it would look funny if all of us guys were just sitting watching the ladies do all the work. However its a great story of what we did and what Habitat does.

Habitat for Humanity project in Columbia

May 10, 2009

Yesterday (Saturday the 9th)  was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I have had when it comes to helping others, volunteering, and knowing the work you have accomplished for a wonderful cause.

On 2nd St. in Columbia, PA  Myself, Doug Dandridge, and other members from Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, along with Terry Trego. Spent a day doing drywall, masonry work to get the front porch finished, and painting the side of the house.

Terry and I along with Ed (member of Holy Spirit) were on The front porch masonry work. Terry found it funny to volunteer me to be the guy that mixes all the mortar compound and carry all the blocks from the back of the yard to the front where him and Ed needed them to put in place and mortar. You would be surprised how fast a wheel barrel of compound goes when you are laying cement block….a wheel barrel is pretty much used within 6-7 blocks depending on if you have to make cuts to fit a block into place. So I was a busy guy. (a side note if you plan on building anything with bricks or cement blocks I am now a master of mixing the compound).

Doug and his team, including the paster, were on the scaffolding all day on the side of the house painting the siding. (Terry and I pretty much decided we were sure doug was just standing there and talking all day about the game he watched on tv the night before…ha ha) However, the side of the house was done by the end of the work day so they did do some work.

The rest of the gang was in the house, with the new owners and were finishing drywalling. The living room was the last room that had to be done. (if you haven’t dry walled before it may seem that dry walling a living room wouldn’t take all day…. yea it does) especially when you dry wall a ceiling.

Trego ended up having to “leave early” at 2pm so Doug was nice enough to come and learn how to lay cement blocks for the rest of the afternoon. If you would have been there you will see that there is a huge hole from the front door to the ground. The porch is 7 layers high of cement block (when finished) then a hardwood top.  We started with no layers and by 4pm got two and a half layers complete, but thats because we didnt have enough sand to make another batch of mortar to keep going. The funny part is when its complete 3 of the 4 layers of cement blocks will be covered by the ground that will be the front yard. So you wont “see” our work, but we know its there and its sturdy. (People who do masonry work for a living make it look SO easy.)

After doing another project for a great cause and for being with the people from Holy Spirit and growing together in faith and fellowship is such a wonderful feeling, even when you are sore and burnt to a crisp because you forgot sun screen. I am looking forward to the next project and other day of fellowship with these people.
