VBS Days 4 and 5

July 24, 2009

Well I have to say the last two days of VBS were just as fun of an experience however, I may be creating my own games if I do this next year. The book that went with this years theme “Discovery Canyon” was good, however not for our group of kids that we had (games wise). They are in need of something a bit more exciting. I am hoping the kids were able to focus on the point of us being there was, and to the messages we were trying to pass on to them, so I guess we will find out sunday morning. Other than that they had fun at crafts, story telling, music, and of course, snack time.

There are a lot of pics from all 5 days on my facebook page. I will post some here as well once I pick out some good ones.

Got another inherited G4.

July 21, 2009

appleI also inherited a Mirror drive G4 tower from a former colleague at Hempfield. I am working on a project for school and this is a perfect machine to turn into a server.

This picture here is what I have however, I have a 17″ Apple display not a 23″. I have 2 17″ lcds in fact, the one is with the G4 Cube.

I also inherited an original 15″ LCD that apple produced. I may use that for the server project. The cube can handle a dual 17″ display setup but I need an adapter. So I am excited to get this project started. I think my room is started to get a little warm with all the computers and monitors that are on and running. Thank god the cube has no fan.

VBS Days 1, 2, and 3.

July 21, 2009

Well,  It has been three days now running games at VBS. I have to say, I am glad I am not certified in K-6. I believe I would lose my mind. The kids are great, however they have been way over energetic and the games designed or the VBS theme this year, are not really aimed at any type of fun physical activities. I may have to start making something up that requires them to run a little bit or something that will expel some of their energy.

I am hoping they will be a little more focused and less energetic in days 4 and 5. Here is hoping anyway. It has been a fun new experience however, I think I will tell Aleisha that I will volunteer for this next year.

Wish me luck on the last two days !

VBS at Holy Spirit.

July 19, 2009

Tonight at 6pm I am starting Vacation Bible School at Holy Spirit. This  should be interesting, I am in charge of games  for VBS, Ill have a group for 20 mins to play a game, and there are four groups of K-6th graders; I am scared. I guess I am about to find out how well I am going to be trying to teach some little kids about Christ and give them something that they will be able to use the rest of their lives; friends, fellowship, and helping them learn the words of christ.

PowerMac G4 Cube, ahead of it’s time?

July 15, 2009

G4 CubeI just procured an old PowerMac G4 Cube this past week. This machine was debuted in 2000 and then was laid to rest in 2001.

Overall it was a great machine for it’s time; the latest G4 processor, cd-rw or dvd-rom, up to 1.5 gigs of ram, and no cooling fan so its really quiet.

Another cool observation to mention, the design itself to get to the “guts” of the machine, you unlatch a handle and the entire machine comes out and is all grafted to a cube shaped skeleton. It makes things very easy to access (memory, wireless card option, hard drive, and logic board).

The problem was, the price. It was priced around $1499 and for that the consumers would rather put $1500 into a G4 tower with dual processors.

The machine itself is great, and saves so much desk space. If the price was different back then I believe it would have been as successful as the Mac Mini is today. I will utilize this machine until the day it dies. I may even pay to get a third party processor upgrade to a single 1.5 ghz G4.

This truly was an innovative computer design ahead of it’s time.

Aunt from New Hampshire visited for July 4th

July 8, 2009

My aunt made a last minute decision to come visit for July 4th. It was a fun adventure to say the least. Picnics, family drama, more drama, a trip to Chesapeake City with Aunt Diane, Aunt Iris and Uncle Jim, lots of beer, staying up late, and a trip over to york to pick up a SD card for my aunts new camera that she didn’t know she needed one. It was fun. Now I had enough of family for a while !

Adobe CS4 Design Suite

July 8, 2009

After working with Adobe Creative Suite CS4 for the mac in the  last 2 weeks, I have to say I am very impressed with the updates they have made to the software. The interface is a bit cleaner, it gives it a “apple” look to it.

I was truly excited about the tabbed interface and tabbed project windows. It saves a lot of desktop space even with use of Spaces and Exposé in Mac OS X.

All the apps are a bit more  integrated with each other which makes it easier to work on a project in one application and move it to the other to create a final product. I will post more in details about these applications once I spend more time with each of them.
